Jamie Potts Named All State For Second Time

Three locals make first team all-state in baseball

Sports fans around the state recognize the West Michigan Conference as a football powerhouse.

But it’s no slouch in baseball, either.

Share Five players from the WMC were recognized on the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association all-state teams.

Earning first-team honors were Shelby senior infielder Trent Felt, Ravenna senior infielder Ty Chopp and Oakridge junior first baseman Jamie Potts. Second-team choices were Shelby senior pitcher Dimitri Innis and Ravenna senior catcher Aaron Sherman.

Other area players on the honor squads were Fremont senior first baseman Alex Harmon (Division 2, second team) and Baldwin senior utility player Cregg Bolles (Division 4, second team).

Felt played a key role in helping Shelby to the Division 3 quarterfinals. He hit .429 with 12 doubles, two home runs and a school-record 54 RBIs.

Chopp led the Bulldogs in hitting (.444), runs (51), home runs (5) and walks (21). He also stole 40-of-42 bases and posted a .589 on-base average.

Potts, the Eagles’ team leader, hit .458 with four home runs, four triples, 10 doubles and 41 RBIs. He also was 6-0 as a pitcher with a 1.04 ERA

Innis posted a 10-2 record with 86 strikeouts and a 2.26 ERA in 65 innings.

Sherman had a .985 fielding average, while hitting .389 with a school-record 47 RBIs and team-high 14 doubles.

Harmon hit .464 with three home runs, 11 doubles, eight triples and 38 RBIs.

Bolles led Baldwin with a .609 batting average and 47 RBIs.
